Accountant

Dion Nomchong, Accountant, KDC Accounting, Canberra

The most demanding job I’ve tackled as an accountant was managing numerous outstanding tax returns for a deceased estate. It felt like juggling flaming torches while riding a unicycle – quite the balancing act! With each return, there were unique complexities to unravel, from untangling financial records to coordinating with multiple beneficiaries. The emotional weight of dealing with a deceased loved one’s affairs added an extra layer of sensitivity to the process. But with patience, persistence, and a bit of creative problem-solving, we managed to navigate through the paperwork jungle and bring everything up to date. It was a humbling experience that underscored the importance of compassion, organisation, and attention to detail in serving my clients during their most challenging times.

My greatest triumph while working at KDC has been aiding businesses in navigating the stormy seas of COVID-19. It was like being a financial lifeguard, diving in to rescue struggling businesses from the turbulent waters of uncertainty. With lockdowns, supply chain disruptions, and economic upheaval, the challenges were unprecedented. But through creative problem-solving, strategic planning, and a hefty dose of resilience, we weathered the storm together. From securing crucial government assistance to implementing innovative cost-saving measures, every step felt like a victory against the odds. And seeing those businesses not only survive but thrive amidst adversity was the ultimate reward. It wasn’t just about numbers; it was about being a beacon of hope in a time of darkness and guiding businesses toward a brighter, more resilient future.

If you handed me that box of chalk, you’d better believe I’d turn that driveway into a vibrant masterpiece! I might start with a whimsical cartoon character, like a friendly dragon soaring through a rainbow-filled sky. Then, I’d add some funky patterns and doodles, maybe throw in some stars and planets for an intergalactic twist. Oh, and we can’t forget about a hopscotch grid or a game of noughts and crosses for some good old-fashioned fun! It’s like bringing a splash of colour and joy to the neighbourhood, one chalk stroke at a time. Who knows, maybe it’ll even inspire a sidewalk art showdown! And if my drawing skills don’t quite live up to my imagination… well, let’s just say I’ll blame it on the chalk!
